World Lung Foundation Announces Photo Contest Winners
(November 9, 2007) Cape Town, South Africa – World Lung Foundation (WLF) is pleased to announce the winners of its first international photography contest, held to encourage photographers throughout the world to create images that educate the public about lung health.
The four winners, who are from Bangladesh, India and Italy, will each receive an award of a digital camera. In addition, their works will be added to WLF's Lung Health Image Library, an online photo database with thousands of images that illustrate the problems related to lung disease.
The winners, and the categories in which they were honored, are:
- Tuberculosis: Kaushik Sengupta, India
- Child Lung Health: Sudipto Das, India
- Air Pollution: Giovanni Diffidenti, Italy
- Tobacco: Mohammad Rakibul Hasan, Banglades
The Lung Health Image Library enables nonprofit organizations, advocates, health workers and journalists to download and use images – for free – that depict the issues associated with asthma, pollution and smoking. It can be seen at www.worldlungfoundation.org/library.
WLF develops projects to support organizations and programs throughout the world that fight tobacco use and lung disease. It offers tools to support and improve global health, including technical assistance, educational programs and the Lung Health Image Library which is available free for nonprofit organizations, advocates, health care workers and journalists.
