Key achievement to date: City-wide awareness campaign generated significant media coverage. Programs about the campaign were highlighted on all popular television stations and in the print media.

Major accomplishments to date:
- Project infrastructure developed; office established and personnel hired.
- Stakeholders identified and contacted as part of broader needs assessment.
- Two-day capacity building workshop held for 52 project staff members and volunteers.
- Citywide awareness campaign launched; campaign activities implemented in 60 locations across Chennai City by five different cultural groups. Youth volunteers went door-to-door to disseminate information.
- Zone mapping of establishments completed to be subject to smoke-free policy and enforcement agencies.
- Political mapping completed of councilors, legislators and political leaders favorable or opposed to smoke-free.
- Model smoke-free policies collected.
- Policy drafting team identified and consultation held.
- Smoke-free policy developed and finalized for Chennai City.
- Meeting held with Department of Public Health and collaboration plan established for policy implementation.
- Training package prepared for upcoming sensitization workshop for city councilors.
- Supportive group of legislators identified and informal briefings provided to 47 legislators.
- Personalized informational briefings
provided to 85 councilors and political party
leaders.
