Major
accomplishments to date:
- One-thousand religious leaders surveyed to assess attitudes about and knowledge of smoking, SHS, smoke-free policies, and constraints that might limit implementation of smoke-free environments in Bangladesh.
- Coalition established.
- Sixty Imams trained on tobacco control advocacy and activity development.
- Information materials designed and disseminated.
- One hundred thirty-six mosques declared tobacco-free.
- Two hundred forty-eight mosques indicated intention to go tobacco-free.
- Final surveys underway to assess effect.
- Lessons learned being compiled along with final grant report.
- BHF recognized that coalition-building
requires networking and collaboration with
other, more experienced organizations. In
collaboration with WBB Trust launched coalition
of religious organizations and Islamic
clerics.
