Major
accomplishments to date:
- Planned workshop to identify responsibilities of Provincial Tobacco Control Committee in collaboration with Ministry of Health.
- Meetings held with Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) and Tobacco and Alcohol Market Regulatory Authority (TAPDK).
- Current available resources for information being revised.
- Monthly updates provided for Ministry of Health publication “The Primary Health Care Bulletin.”
- Produced circular for effective supervision of smoke-free code implementation.
- A documentary film has been produced to support smoke-free implementation.
- MPOWER report has been translated into Turkish for dissemination to all partners and stakeholders.
- 69,768 people attended 2008 Quit and Win Campaign.
- Fifty-seven teams inspected 111 shopping malls in seven cities that make up 41 percent of the Turkish population. 106 businesses were in breach of the law.
- 109 penalties have been imposed on public areas, 26 on buildings of corporate bodies and nine on restaurants.
