Our WorkWLF's efforts are focused in low and middle income countries, where lung diseases take their greatest toll. We provide groundbreaking programs and services that result in improved capacity to fight all forms of lung disease. We provide assistance to governments and non-government organizations (NGOs) as they establish their own knowledge, experience and infrastructure to deliver high-quality public health services. Although we are a relatively young organization, we are already providing groundbreaking programs and services that result in improved capacity to fight all forms of lung disease.
In 2006, WLF was selected by Bloomberg Philanthropies as one of five partners for the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use, a global program to implement proven tobacco control measures in low- and middle-income countries. The Foundation has received $225.6 million of funds towards this initiative, allowing WLF to provide grants to its partners in order to promote better policies and best practices in smoke-free jurisdictions, advertising and sponsorship bans, advocacy, graphic pack warnings and other interventions. The Foundation also provides direct financial and technical assistance to governments and NGOs to use mass media social marketing strategies to promote cessation and support tobacco control policies.
