Members of the World Lung Foundation team headed south to sunny Cancún from December 3-7. The Mexican beach locale, impacted by H1N1 influenza earlier in the year, was a timely as well as idyllic choice to host the yearly World Lung Conference, which is organized by the International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease.
In addition to hosting an exhibition booth and poster sessions, WLF presented a conference symposium entitled “Mass media in low- and middle-income countries: Evidence from World Lung Foundation campaigns.” WLF staff and partners presented tobacco control mass media campaigns that supported unique country contexts, such as smoke-free legislation in Mexico, cigarette pack health warnings in Egypt, and strict Chinese censorship. Senior VP of Communications Sandra Mullin also presented results from an international study of tobacco control advertisements, conducted across 12 countries with high smoking prevalence.
