About WLF’s Work in Tanzania
Since 2006, WLF with financial support from Bloomberg Philanthropies has been working closely with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, and with Tanzanian partners to implement a state-of-the-art maternal health program in Tanzania. The program has trained personnel – Assistant Medical Officers – who can now conduct emergency obstetrics care like cesareansections, a procedure that can make the difference between life and death in the case of birth complications. The program has also extensivelyrenovated or built operating theaters, maternity wards, laboratories and staff housing in Kigoma, Morogoro and Pwani.
