WLF Supports Global Health Initiative Coalition’s Policy Recommendations and Report
(New York) - World Lung Foundation released today a statement from Peter Baldini, Chief Executive Officer, following the Global Health Initiative’s new report The Future of Global Health: Ingredients of a Bold and Effective U.S. Initiative.
"Every year millions of people die needlessly from tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS, neglected tropical diseases and poor maternal and child health care. The Administration has stated its intent to address these severe issues but has not matched its statements with a clearly articulated policy, adequate funding or a sufficient plan to reform international aid.The report from The Global Health Initiative coalition outlines steps to invest intelligently, scale up innovative programs, build health workforce capacity and restructure aid in a way that breaks down barriers to coordination. The current structure often leads to duplication of efforts or, even worse, delayed resources getting to patients.
We urge the Administration and Congress to adopt the recommendations set forth in this report. The U.S. should focus on results and commit the resources needed to achieve those results. Only then will America’s response be worthy of its words and its admirable ambitions."
