Research Associate - Mass Media (part time)

World Lung Foundation (WLF) was established in response to the global epidemic of lung disease, which kills 10 million people each year. WLF supports a wide range of international public health activities in the areas of tobacco control, tuberculosis, asthma, child lung health, and HIV/AIDS.

WLF is also one of five coordinating partners of the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use in low- and middle-income countries, where more than two-thirds of the world’s smokers live. WLF supports mass media communications efforts in several priority countries, including—but not limited to—China, India, Russia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Mexico, Egypt, Pakistan, Poland, Brazil, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Turkey, and Ukraine.

The organization and its activities are rapidly expanding. As part of this growth, WLF is committed to building a first-rate communications division. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Communications, the Research Associate will provide assistance with a large-scale media message-testing effort underway in priority countries.

 

Specific duties include:

  • Work with Communications team to help identify appropriate research partners in countries.
  • Work with principle investigators and research team to coordinate message-testing efforts by liaising with researchers, field workers and data collectors, ensuring quality control and timeliness of project.  
  • Ensure that television ads to be tested are dubbed into appropriate languages and, when appropriate, ensure animatics and story board posters are developed for testing purposes.
  • Work closely with research team to ensure consistency of message-testing protocol implementation across countries.
  • Assist with recruitment protocols and attend focus group discussions when possible.
  • Provide biweekly updates on message-testing progress.

Qualities and Qualifications

  • Familiarity with market research, focus group testing, and other techniques that contribute to the development of effective media campaigns
  • Excellent coordination and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and excellent judgment
  • Background in health communications
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Ability to travel
  • Bilingual proficiency

Compensation:  Position is part time. Salary is commensurate with education, experience and salary history.
