In September 2008, Instituto Nacional de Salud Publica, a grantee of the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Use, launched a comprehensive campaign to build support for smoke-free jurisdictions in Mexico City. World Lung Foundation provided financial and technical assistance.

Campaign: Un Respiro

In March 2008, Mexico City passed landmark legislation that made it one of the world’s largest smoke-free cities. The Fundación InterAmericana del Corazón Mexico, a grantee of the Bloomberg Initiative to Reduce Tobacco Usage, produced a series of radio ads that were developed to demonstrate the benefits of smoke-free areas for restaurant workers, patrons and the general public.
